![]() One has a foam support layer while the other uses a pocketed coil unit. Both have identical materials in the top layers of memory foam. There are two mattress choices in the Tempur-ProBreeze line. These are tight-top covers, without quilting or anything between the cooling cover and the top TCM Plus memory foam with its cooling features. The cooling cover on all of the Tempur-Breeze models zips off and can be machine washed. However, we noticed a marked difference between the non-cooling cover and the cover on the LuxeBreeze mattresses, which the company says feel 30% cooler to the touch. We had a hard time noticing a lot of difference when we compared the two. The company estimates that the ProBreeze mattresses feel 5% more cool to the touch than the company's mattresses that don't use the cooling cover. Tempur-Pedic uses this cooling cover on all four Breeze models, but the LuxeBreeze versions use a higher percentage of it. It's an innovative approach, and it feels noticeably cool to the touch. Since the fiber is woven in, it can't wash off or diminish over time. (Think about how a high density material like marble feels cooler than low-density material like wood.). Woven into the fabric are special high-density fibers that by their very nature feel cool to the touch. We see other manufacturers using a similar technique in the cover of a mattress, but Tempur-Pedic is using a very different approach to its cooling mattress covers. Tempur-Pedic uses phase-change beads on its TCM foam. The idea is that the bed retains its cool feeling long enough for you to get to sleep.Īccording to Tempur-Pedic's testing, the phase change material and the TCM Plus foam keep the bed cool 1.5 times longer (for ProBreeze models) than it's non-cooling mattresses, and 2 times longer for the LuxeBreeze models, which include more of the phase-change beads. Then when you get into bed, it takes a while for your body to warm the beads and melt the wax. That makes the surface cool to the touch when it's 'cold' - when no one is in the bed, for instance. Put simply, these are small wax beads with a plastic coating that are applied to a surface (in this case, foam). The TCM memory foam also includes improved phase change material. More air can pass through the TCM foam because of those extra nooks and crannies. As you can see below, the TCM foam on the right visibly has more nooks and crannies than the other Tempur-Pedic memory foam next to it. This foam has a classic slow, melting-into-the-bed memory foam feel, yet has a more open-cell construction intended to improve air flow. ![]() ModelĪll of the Tempur-Breeze models use Tempur-Pedic's TCM (Tempur Climate Material) Plus memory foam. There are four mattresses in the line, separated into the ProBreeze and LuxeBreeze series. Tempur-pedic's Tempur-Breeze collection of mattresses has been revamped for 2019-2020, and we are impressed with its innovations intended to help counter the biggest complaint against memory foam mattresses-that they 'sleep hot.'
