![]() This is one of my favourite songs from the album, which takes me back to the time when I was a young lad in college studying. This would have been a difficult song to sing, even for a hardened professional, and in this one she shines and shows the world her amazing innate talent for singing. Consequently, any meaningful translation has to fill in the gaps otherwise it will not make sense. Today, the Star album and majority of their work, is considered some of the best 80s disco music to come out of Bollywood. Kind of like “chika boom” or if you’re more familiar with Middle Eastern music think “doum teka”. Despite its' goofy approach, the song is reflective of the way dance is often viewed in Turkish Culture- a refuge within the chaos, a way of living in the moment and connecting with others. The lyrics are written cleverly, with a sense of humor, and touch on the frustration and confusion we experience as individuals in a fastpaced society that doesn't always make sense. It might help to read the notes at the bottom along with the translation. The song is full of colloqualisms, slang, as well as creative language, a lot like an American Rap song, impossible to translate literally. “Çakkidi” was written by famous singer, songwriter Sezen Aksu who also wrote Tarkan’s big hit “Shikidim”.
